The track was written by Wheesung, with multiple composers contributing to the song’s bright, refreshing pop sound. Musical Style & Composition
“Dance the Night Away” was composed by several music producers and written by Wheesung. The song is an uptempo pop track that expresses the youthfulness of the members, delivering a “cool and refreshing vibe strong enough to beat the summer heat.” Billboard’s Tamar Herman described it as “a summery EDM and groovy pop track that bounces over booming bass, bright horns, and noisy synthesizer beats.”
Music Video & Promotions
The music video for “Dance the Night Away” was filmed in early June 2018 on a beach in Okinawa, Japan. Two video teasers were released on July 1 and July 5, respectively, and the full music video was uploaded online on July 9, 2018. In the MV, all nine TWICE members appear as castaways who have washed ashore on a beach. Two months after release, the music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube, and it later ranked 7th among the “Top 10 Most Popular Music Videos in Korea” on YouTube Rewind 2018.<br /><br /> A few hours after the song’s release, TWICE held a comeback live broadcast on Naver V LIVE, where they performed the full choreography for the first time. The group also showcased their comeback stages for “Dance the Night Away” on Music Bank (July 13), Show! Music Core (July 14), SBS Inkigayo (July 15), Show Champion (July 18), and M Countdown (July 19).
