About the Song
《New Jeans》 is a track from NewJeans’ second extended play Get Up, released as the B-side to “Super Shy” on July 7, 2023, by ADOR, a Hybe subsidiary. Produced by Frankie Scoca and Jinsu Park, the song was written by Erika de Casier, Fine Glindvad Jensen, Gigi, and group member Haerin. Rhythmically and sonically, 《New Jeans》 pulls from UK garage, Jersey club, jungle, and drum-and-bass, weaving fluttering harp textures, stuttering vocal chops, and a skipping, kinetic production that feels both sleek and playful. Lyrically, it reflects the members’ awareness of the attention surrounding them, while nodding to OutKast’s 2001 single “So Fresh, So Clean,” positioning the track as a subtle statement of identity. Critics praised its inventive production, often describing it as a kind of mission statement for the EP. Directed by Lee Young-eum, the music video reimagines NewJeans as Powerpuff Girls–inspired animated characters in celebration of the cartoon’s 25th anniversary. The group performed the song on Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo, and 《New Jeans》 went on to reach number eight on the Circle Digital Chart, number 32 on the Billboard Global 200, and place within the top 15 on Billboard’s Hits of the World charts in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam, while also charting in Australia, Canada, Japan, the UK Independent Singles Chart, and the U.S. Bubbling Under Hot 100.

The song moves like a renewal ritual, celebrating transformation through small shifts in style and energy. Its repetitive refrains mimic the rhythm of reinvention, sketching how identity can refresh itself in motion, turning familiar elements into a brighter, more confident version of the self.
